Managing Tele-Workers

Find me on:

"Wow! You must never see the sun?!"

"I could never get anything done, I would be too distracted."

"Do you practice your sales pitches with your two bulldogs before a meeting?" (Yes, and they love it!)

As a full-time, remote sales rep since 2011, I have had many variations of the conversations above with friends and family.

Yes, my bulldogs are my office counterparts. YES, I do enjoy taking a late lunch to watch Ellen. And YES, I do often work from my favorite bar, coffee shop, or from a remote vacation spot for a long weekend.

The fact is I am more productive than I could have ever been driving through D.C., Nashville, or even Chattanooga traffic to get to an office. (I have lived in all 3 cities while working remotely, even spent 6 months in Teton Valley, Idaho. Please do not tell my boss at the time, Matt you are the best!)

*My two bulldogs, Tula and Byron, are a highly engaged audience for sales pitch practicing.

While working remotely I have been promoted 3 times, won numerous "Team Player" and "Rep Of" awards. There are 3 key pillars to being a successful remote employee:

  1. Be honest with yourself and what you NEED to accomplish each day/week.

  2. Set milestones.

  3. Stay connected. Coffee meetings, lunch dates, and monthly 1-on-1's, can all happen through technology. If you are not sure, ask your teenager how they manage their social lives.

Let’s face the facts, over 45% of U.S. workers are working remotely today. It is happening, so let us embrace it together.

Here at IPDS, the majority of us are tele-working and have not only embraced it, but we know how to design it, manage it, improve processes, and gain efficiencies from it.

Come see me at this year’s IPDS Tech Summit where I will show you the gear needed and talk you through how to efficiently manage your remote staff.

One last thing... If you are participating in the IPDS Virtual Treasure Hunt - great! We're happy to have you and you're on your way to winning a secret prize valued at ~$500! If not, then you should be! Read how it works here. On to the riddles...

I am the beginning of the end, and the end of time and space. I am essential to creation, and I surround every place.

Each morning I appear to lie at your feet. All day I will follow no matter how fast you run, yet I nearly perish in the midday sun.

Be sure to keep track of all your riddle answers so you can spell out the name of the prize valued at ~$500 at the end!

Riddle Recaps:

Missed the first riddle? You can play catch up and find it here.

Missed the second one too? You’re really slacking… but here it is.
